How to download Reddit videos

Reddit doesn't give you a native "download" button on video posts, which is why a dedicated Reddit video downloader is the fastest way to save one. Here's the full process, plus a few gotchas that trip people up.

Step 1: Find the post link

Open the Reddit post containing the video, either in the app or a browser. Tap the share icon and choose "Copy link," or copy the URL directly from your browser's address bar.

Step 2: Paste it into the Reddit video downloader

Head to the RedditVideoDownloader homepage and paste the link into the input field. It reads the link in your browser and shows you the exact steps for that type of post — no server ever sees the link.

Step 3: Save the file yourself

Open the link and use your browser's built-in "Save video as..." (right-click, or long-press on mobile). On mobile, it lands in your downloads folder or camera roll depending on your browser settings.

Why some downloads don't work

A few situations will block a Reddit video downloader from working: the post was deleted or made private after you copied the link, the subreddit is quarantined or requires login to view, or the link you pasted was a user profile or comment link rather than the actual post link.

A note on audio

Reddit-hosted videos (the ones served from v.redd.it) store video and audio as two separate files. Most simple downloaders, including the current version of this one, save the video track only. If a downloaded clip is silent, that's why.
